Black Hills Energy's commitment to supporting the blockchain industry

Black Hills Energy has been supporting Wyoming's blockchain industry for more than six years, after we established a new electric tariff to support this industry. This Blockchain Interruptible Service (BCIS) tariff was designed to attract high-use customers with electric requirements of 10,000 kilowatts or more, while ensuring our existing customers are shielded from additional costs or service interruptions.
Blockchain companies require substantial amounts of safe, cost-effective electricity to operate effectively. By introducing the BCIS tariff, we are able to meet the high energy demands of the blockchain industry while protecting our current customers from additional costs. This initiative is crucial for the development and sustainability of the blockchain industry in Wyoming, which provides a significant economic opportunity for the state.
Blockchain technology is inherently data-intensive, requiring robust, ready and reliable data centers to manage and process vast amounts of information. Blockchain data centers benefit from the BCIS tariff by:
- Increased safety: Blockchain needs high quantities of safe, cost-effective electricity to be viable.
- Enhanced stability: As an energy provider we're committed to the development and sustainability of this new industry and economic opportunity for Wyoming.
- Innovation and development: This innovative tariff will foster industry growth bringing jobs, sales tax, city franchise fees and property tax revenue into Wyoming and the Cheyenne area.
Our business strategy is to attract new business and growth to Wyoming and all of our service territories. By supporting blockchain technology not only are we contributing to the growth of the blockchain industry but also bringing significant economic and technological benefits to the communities we serve.
